Tyler Macallister says do-nothing incumbent Rep. Bill Keating is too busy keeping his seat warm to turn up the heat on Washington, D.C. politicians in both parties
Mattapoisett – Well-known charter boat captain and Mattapoisett Selectboard member Tyler Macallister announced his plan to run for Congress as a Republican, challenging longtime incumbent Congressman Bill Keating for the 9th Congressional District seat in next year’s election.
Macallister, a lifelong resident of Cape Cod until he married and settled in Mattapoisett with his wife Cindy and Black Lab Zeke in 2001 He started fishing on his own boat at the age of 12 and says he decided to run for Congress because Washington, D.C. needs people with real world experience and an outsider’s mindset to benefit the people of Cape Cod, Eastern Massachusetts and throughout the country.
“I am not running against Bill Keating because he’s a bad person, but rather because he’s been a largely do-nothing Congressman whose too busy keeping his congressional seat warm to turn up the heat on career politicians in Washington,” said Macallister, a small business owner and entrepreneur who operates his own bluefin tuna and charter boats for the last ten years has fished for giant bluefin tuna in Cape Cod waters since the age of 17. “As Congressman, I will work with both President Trump and commonsense people in both parties to reduce the cost of living for working families, retirees, and small business owners; secure our borders; lower the cost of prescription drugs and healthcare; reassert American energy dominance; protect our environment; and deliver on desperately needed local infrastructure projects like upgrading or replacing the Bourne and Sagamore bridges.”
Macallister helped to popularize “Harpoon Hunting” for bluefin tuna – a sustainable approach to fishing that involves using a harpoon to target and capture the fish. He has appeared on multiple reality shows, including on Discovery Channel. Macallister has served the Town of Mattapoisett for over 20 years in different capacities, where he worked to keep his seaside community a safe, affordable place to live, work, raise a family and retire. He is married for 24 years with a college-age daughter who is entering her senior year at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
